Doctor Dan

Doctor Dan

We met Dr Dan through a mutual friend one night at our house and began to share ideas til late in the night. There wasn’t enough time in the day. Dan was living in Baker City and had us come out a few times to further our discussions. We all had a lot in common. Early on we talked about how we could all begin to live in this new paradigm to create a model to show the world it was possible. Some circumstances opened briefly with that possibility of it happening in Baker City. That window closed but left us still wanting to make a go at living more sustainably. Kate and I were living in Beaverton at the time and began to look for properties in a rural environment. It was my mother rosemary that found the property in St helens. My Uncle Jim and myself went to investigate. The property was found on Zillow mislisted by 200k. Of course it looked very appealing at that price. When we arrived on the property, it was magical. In the Barn lived an enormous Owl. Since, Owls have become a symbol for us. Jim and myself didn’t want to leave. We reported back to Kate and She came to see the land and knew this was it. Dan came to stay with us a few times at our Beaverton location and we convinced him to come out with us to check it out. Some of the pictures below are from that visit. We all began to move forward on trying to make this a reality. We spoke to the owner and waited to hear back for a few months. It always seems to be right when you are about to give up hope that the answers come to you. Kate and myself, feeling down about this lost opportunity decided to spend a day at the Sandy river and feel better. In our minds the deal was over and it was back to the drawing board to find the next path to take. That day we got the call from the land owner asking if we were still interested. The excitement skyrocketed. Dan was interested as well and began to help that day. I knew of a commercial truck i might be able to buy for a great deal. I had 2/3rds the money for it and Dan gave the rest. Dan continued to give to this project for about 2 years. His contribution can almost not be measured with the yardsticks we use today to assess value. His wealth of knowledge and willingness to give and see this project off to a good start is awe inspiring. Due to some family and health changes, Dan left Ingenuity on 3/23/2014 to support his family and his well being. His legacy will always live on here and sets the bar for humanitarianism for the world as well as for us. We hope to be able to make an impact on the world much like the impact Dan has made on us.
